Snugg ultra thin iPad 2 case

By Geri L. Dreiling, Esq.

For the past week, I have been testing a black Ultra Thin iPad 2 case made by Snugg. Snugg makes several iPad-related items such as cases, flip stands and car head rests.

As the name suggests, the ultra thin case is slender, sleek and lightweight. The folding front cover mimics leather and the inside front cover is lined with soft microfiber. The back of the case is made of thermoplastic polyurethane. When the front cover closes, it automatically puts the iPad to sleep.

The case is Amazon list price is $49.99 but is on sale for $34.99. (Affiliate link) I received a courtesy sample from Snugg for this review and after several days of using the ultra thin case at home, in the office and toting it to meetings with clients, I have compiled a list of the pros and cons that will be of interest to lawyers.

1. The cover is sleek, professional and lightweight.

The ultra thin case works well in a professional setting. Unobtrusive and elegant, the black case brought back memories of the days when lawyers would arrive for a client meeting or courthouse conference carrying a leather notepad case.

For lawyers on the go, the lightweight is welcome. The case fit easily in my bag but didn’t weigh down my shoulder. Of course, the lightweight advantage is also a drawback. If you are a lawyer who is worried about dropping your iPad or you plan to take your iPad into environments a bit more rugged than a downtown conference room, this may not be the case for you.

2. The automatic sleep mode is a battery-friendly feature.

Whether you own a smart phone or a tablet, chances are you’ve either run out of battery life or you were worried your device wasn’t going to make it until the next charge. The automatic sleep mode built into the ultra thin iPad case is a welcome feature. The magnetic front cover instantly switches the iPad into sleep mode when the case is closed.

3. Front cover folds into an iPad stand.

The front cover is made of three panels that fold into a triangle. The triangle can support the iPad in two positions. The first position is a slightly raised one that tips the iPad up about two inches. The second position tilts the iPad up to a near standing position.

Initially, I had problems with the second position. The triangle shape wouldn’t hold and the iPad would slip backwards. However, I found that after a few days of use, the cover loosened up and the problem disappeared. Now, the iPad and the triangle stand stay put in the position I want.
